Use the Power of the Tongue to Delegitimise Demonic and Human Operations Against Us: Closing Doors at the End of a Season
For those who have succeeded to get to day 2 congratulations and if you failed to start yesterday, it's never too late to join the fasting and prayer. As we approach the end of the year, many of us take time to reflect, assess, and prepare for the new season ahead. While we may look forward to new promises, growth, and blessings, it’s important to acknowledge the spiritual battles that may have marked the previous season. We all know there is a lot to write about in 2024. The enemy brought out some aces but thank God through christ victory was guaranteed at the cross. Thus said, there are certain things—both seen and unseen—that may try to cross over into the new year, hindering our progress and perpetuating cycles of adversity. Listen to this saints; history is not just record of the past but an opportunity for spiritual accusation.
The Bible teaches us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. With this understanding, we can speak in alignment with God's will, using our words to break the chains of spiritual oppression and delegitimize any demonic or human operations that have been at work against us. At the end of every season, especially as we prepare for a new year, it is crucial to close the doors to anything that seeks to carry over patterns of failure, frustration, or defeat.
the power of life and death is in the tongue Proverbs 18:21
By the power of the Holy Spirit and through our authority in Christ, we have the ability to close doors to demonic forces, unhealthy patterns, and human opposition that would attempt to follow us into the new year. It is not enough to simply hope for a fresh start; we must actively declare and decree the closure of spiritual doors that may have given room to adversities, and take authority over the forces that might want to hinder our destiny.
Closing doors means shutting the doors to spiritual strongholds, limiting beliefs, destructive relationships, sin cycles, and negative influences. It is an intentional act of spiritual warfare that sets the stage for a new beginning. What we are doing today in prayer is to use the power of the tongue in delegitimizing every demonic or human operation against us, and how we can actively close the doors to things that would prevent us from walking in victory and breakthrough in the new season ahead.
Identifying What Needs to Be Closed
Before we can close doors in prayer, Holy Spirit must reveal to you what strategy of the enemy he intends to use against us. Doors are critical access points he uses to access our lives for those destructive strategies to work. Here are a few areas where closing doors is vital:
1. Unhealthy Relationships
Toxic friendships or partnerships that drain your energy or lead you away from God's purpose.
Relationships that encourage sin, compromise, or emotional/spiritual harm.
People who constantly bring negativity, gossip, or conflict into your life.
2. Destructive Habits and Addictions
Addictions to substances, behaviors, or activities that interfere with your spiritual health.
Habits that lead to unhealthy lifestyles (e.g., overeating, procrastination, excessive screen time).
Patterns of thought or behavior that cause you to repeatedly fall into sin or disobedience.
3. Unforgiveness and Bitterness
Holding onto grudges, anger, or resentment from past hurts.
Refusing to forgive others or yourself, which keeps you spiritually bound.
Negative emotions that block your peace and joy in Christ.
4. Fear, Doubt, and Anxiety
Fear and doubt that prevent you from stepping out in faith or trusting God's plan for your life.
Anxiety over things you cannot control, preventing you from living in peace.
Any form of unbelief or a mindset that limits God’s ability to move in your life.
5. Past Regrets and Failures
Letting past mistakes or regrets hinder your spiritual growth or purpose.
Lingering on past failures, which can prevent you from moving forward.
Dwelling in what could have been instead of embracing the present and future.
6. Negative Self-Talk and Low Self-Worth
Thoughts of inadequacy, shame, or self-condemnation that limit your identity in Christ.
Believing lies about your worth or abilities, instead of aligning with what God says about you.
Comparing yourself to others and feeling unworthy of God’s love or blessings.
7. Distractions and Time-Wasters
Unnecessary distractions that pull you away from your relationship with God or your life’s purpose.
Time spent on things that don't contribute to your spiritual or personal growth (e.g., excessive entertainment, social media).
Avoiding responsibilities or things God has called you to by being distracted.
8. Unhealthy Attachments to Material Things
Excessive attachment to wealth, possessions, or the pursuit of things that distract from spiritual priorities.
A mindset that focuses on material success rather than eternal values.
Relying on possessions for fulfillment or identity rather than finding your worth in Christ.
9. Pride and Self-Reliance
Pride that causes you to rely on your own strength and abilities rather than trusting in God.
Self-centeredness that prevents you from serving others or humbling yourself before God.
Resistance to correction or guidance from others in the body of Christ.
10. Unproductive Mindsets or Beliefs
Limiting beliefs or thinking that you are not capable of achieving God's purpose for your life.
Negative thoughts that prevent you from seeing God's abundance, favor, and blessings in your life.
A mindset that embraces failure or mediocrity rather than striving for excellence in God.
11. Procrastination and Lack of Discipline
Putting off important tasks or spiritual practices like prayer, Bible study, or serving others.
Living with a lack of discipline, especially in areas that require obedience and commitment.
Delaying important decisions or actions that are needed for growth in your walk with God.
12. Unholy Entertainment and Influences
Exposure to movies, music, or media that encourage sin, immorality, or negative influences.
Allowing ungodly content to shape your values, thoughts, and behavior.
Surrounding yourself with influences that draw you away from God's truth.
13. Lack of Vision and Purpose
Living without clear vision or direction for your life.
Failing to seek and align with God’s specific calling or purpose for your life.
Being content with living in a cycle of mediocrity rather than pursuing what God has planned for you.
14. Spiritual Lukewarmness
Half-hearted devotion or inconsistent relationship with God.
Settling for a routine spiritual life without growing deeper in intimacy with God.
Losing passion or zeal for the things of God and for His Kingdom.
15. Negative spoken words
Words of doubt, curses, or words spoken over us by others.
Words of negativity and condemnation create strongholds in our lives.
By using the power of our tongues, we can delegitimize demonic and human operations against us, break the chains of adversity, and align ourselves with God’s will for the year ahead. As we do, we can walk into the new season with confidence, knowing that the doors we close are closed forever by the authority of the Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
What to do ?
When closing doors to negative influences, sin, or spiritual strongholds, renouncing and revoking are two powerful actions you can take. These actions help to break the legal rights that the enemy or negative influences may have over your life.
Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn.
1. Renounce:
To renounce means to formally reject or disown something. It is a powerful declaration of your decision to turn away from something, especially sin, negative behaviors, or past agreements with the enemy. When you renounce something, you are verbally declaring that you no longer accept or embrace it, and you are choosing to walk in God’s truth instead.
"I renounce every sinful behavior and any influence of darkness in my life. I renounce all ungodly relationships, negative patterns, and thoughts that have held me captive. I reject all curses and strongholds in my life and choose to walk in the light of Christ. In Jesus' name, I declare freedom from every stronghold." Continue the Prayer as God gives you utterance
2. Revoke:
To revoke means to officially cancel or withdraw permission, authority, or privilege. When you revoke something spiritually, you are declaring that any authority or right that the enemy or negative forces have had in your life is canceled and voided. This is especially important in removing any legal access points that have been granted through sin or disobedience.
Steps to Revoke:
Identify the Authority Being Revoked: Recognize any areas where the enemy has had legal access to your life through sin, unhealthy soul ties, or generational curses.
Speak to the Enemy: In the authority of Christ, revoke any claim the enemy has over your life. This can include revoking any curses, generational bondage, or negative declarations made over you.
Command the Enemy to Leave: Once you revoke the enemy’s right to operate, command him to leave in Jesus' name, with no room for negotiation.
"I revoke any legal rights the enemy has had over my life. I cancel every curse, every lie, and every agreement that has been made through sin or disobedience. I take back the authority God has given me, and I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I revoke the enemy’s hold on my family, finances, health, and destiny, in Jesus' name." Continue the Prayer as God gives you utterance
By renouncing sinful behaviors, negative patterns, and any demonic influence, and by revoking the enemy's rights and authority over your life, you are actively positioning yourself to walk in the freedom, victory, and purpose that God has ordained for you. With these declarations, you set a spiritual foundation for a new season, fully aligning yourself with God's will and His promises for your life. God bless you and stay under the covering of his grace.
